The Virginia Driver Improvement Course is for the individual who is attending this class as an:

  • Virginia DMV Certified Defensive Driver Improvement Clinic CourseElection: You are voluntarily taking this traffic school course to receive 5 safe driving points off your Virginia Driving Record.  (Driver must be 20 or older for Online Class.)
  • Court Order: A court requires you to complete a driver improvement course.  The court will determine if you will be awarded safe driving points and/or a fine reduction.
  • DMV Order: Required by the Virginia DMV to take a driver improvement course.

Virginia Traffic School Class - $44.95The total price of our Online Course is $44.95.  There are NO HIDDEN FEES or surprise charges when you register! The price includes the class, exam, certificate processing and your certificate.  (Most schools charge you an additional $9.95 for email delivery and up to $10.00 for the exam.)

Taking the Virginia Defensive Driving Course Online

We created our Virginia traffic school online course to be as convenient as possible for the student.  When you register at our secure site, students can choose their own username and password.  After successfully registering, you are immediately transferred our secure classroom portal and are able to begin your online Virginia Defensive Driver course.

Our NTSI course is a DMV-licensed traffic violator school.  It is designed to help drivers refresh their knowledge of safe driving tactics, understand the benefits and responsibilities of having a Virginia License, and become acquainted with new traffic laws.  You will be refreshing your defensive driving skills, including learning about collision avoidance, effects of weather conditions, sharing the road, safe use of technology, and traffic signals and markings.

The driver improvement clinic course is divided into 18 modules.  At the end of each module, there are simple review questions.  Our Virginia traffic school online course is designed as an eight (8) hour class, but you work at your own pace.  You may complete the program in one sitting or Login / Logoff as often as you want to complete the class in increments of time, according to your own schedule.  Once you go through the materials, you will answer review questions at the end of each section / module.

Important Notice -- If you are under age 20, you are not eligible to take a computer-based
driver improvement course online - you must complete the course in a classroom.

Upon finishing the internet portion of the Virginia Defensive Driver online course, you will then be ready to take your final exam.  Virginia requires all students to take the exam at an Approved Testing Center administered by a Proctor.

The Virginia Defensive Driver course final exam is 50 questions consisting of multiple choice and True / False answers.  The questions all come from the course and there is no time limit to take the exam.  You need to score 80% or better to pass.  In the unlikely event you fail the final exam, Virginia requires you to wait until the next calendar day before you can retake the exam.  (A small fee of $6.00 is required by the test center if you need to retake the exam.)

Virginia Test Centers and Your Certificate

There are 45 strategically located Test Centers in the Commonwealth.  (See the list and their locations.)  We advise students to call a center beforehand to find out their operating days and times.  We also strongly suggest students complete their Court Ordered course NLT 4-5 days prior to your Due Date.

After successfully completing your final exam, your Certificate will be processed.  Certificates are routinely processed twice a day (Monday through Friday).  Certificates are sent via email to the address you provide during Registration in a .PDF formatted file.  Depending on the time you completed your exam, you will receive your Certificate within 1 business day.  Download and print a copy of your Certificate on any PC or Mac with a printer connected to the machine.  (In an Emergency call 888-312-6874.)

Virginia requires that the student is responsible for delivering their Completion Certificate to either the County Clerk's office (Court Order) or a DMV Office (Point reduction or DMV Order).  If you completed the class for an Insurance Discount, call your agent to determine where you send the Certificate.

Insurance Discount

All students need to verify a discount will be provided by your insurance company prior to taking this class.  Also review the following limitations if you attend this course for Insurance Reduction:

  1. If you take a driver improvement course to reduce your insurance premium, you will not be eligible to receive safe driving points.
  2. If a court assigns you to complete a defensive driver improvement clinic, you will not be eligible to receive an insurance premium reduction.
